Pre-Tour

We decided to arrive to Europe early, to explore a different country before starting our Rick Steves' tour in Rome. We flew into the city of Zurich in Switzerland and had a few days to explore. Check out our travel adventures below!

Switzerland

We had the opportunity to explore the city of Zurich at night after checking-in and freshening up at our hotel near the airport. The next morning we had a full and busy day! We booked a tour with the Best of Switzerland Tours to see Mt. Rigi.

Our tour started with a lovely coach ride over the Albis Pass and along the shores of beautiful Lake Lucerne to Weggis, a charming summer resort on the Lucerne Riviera.

We then boarded the aerial cableway to Rigi Kaltbad and enjoyed the breathtaking vista of Lake Lucerne.

On the mountain we made a change, and got to ride Europe's first ever mountain railway to Rigi-Kulm at 1,797 m a.s.l.

We were overwhelmed with excitement! The views of the deep blue lakes and the snow-capped mountains were simply spectacular.

We just had to take a mother-daughter selfie with this magnificent mountain range! ;)

There were hiking trails and beautiful scenes all around the area. If you ever visit, there are plenty of places to explore at the top of Mt Rigi.

After our mountain visit, we boarded a public boat for a lovely one-hour boat trip on the beautiful Lake Lucerne.

We got so lucky that it was a clear day! We could still see the mountains from the lake.

We met some follow travelers visiting from the United States too. They were so kind and offered to take this photo of us.

We docked at the Lucerne pier and strolled through the medieval streets of the charming Old Town. We even got to visit and cross the famous Chapel Bridge!

After a busy morning, we were hungry (espically baby Liliana!) and decided to grab some lunch.

And since we were in Switzerland, we couldn't leave without trying their famous fondue!

The cheese fondue tasted divine! We devoured the bread, potatoes and veggies so quickly, with that delicious and fresh cheese.

The name of the restaurant was called Fondue House Du Pont. Thankfully it wasn't too busy, and we got to sit by the window and enjoy the breathtaking views.

We ended our meal with this tasty Swiss chocolate fondue. It was soooooo good with these freshly cut pieces of fruit. We couldn't decide which fondue we liked better, the cheese or the chocolate. But we both agreed that this restaurant was worth a visit!

Now at the end of our day, we took our tour bus back to Zurich. We spent the night at the Radisson Blu Hotel next to the airport, which was super convenient since we didn't have to stress about making our flight. We then packed up and were on our way to Rome to join our Rick Steves' tour!
