Volterra

On Day 3 we drove through Tuscany, and it was breath-taking! Since we were traveling during spring, everything was green, vibrant and so full of life. We got to soak in the picturesque country-side, that had several vineyards and castles. We even got to see the outside of Andrea Bocelli's villa! We continued on some narrow roads, as we ascended to the top of a hill, that hill being the town of Volterra. We were struck by how beautiful and scenic the views from Volterra were. You could seriously see the rolling hills of Tuscany for miles!  After getting orientated to the town, we checked into our cozy hotel and enjoyed a Tuscan feast together at a favorite local restaurant.

On Day 4, we joined our morning walking tour with a local guide who vividly orated Volterra's history and traditions. We got to walk through the cobblestone streets, visit some small shops and eat at local restaurants. One of the highlights this day was getting to sit in on an alabaster workshop! And of course, shop for some cute little alabaster souvenirs to take home ;)

Later on we got to tour the Guarnacci Etruscan Museum, and had the opportunity to learn about this mysterious pre-Roman civilization. After our tour, we got to explore the town on our own. We tried one of the restaurants recommended by Rick Steves (La Vecchia Lira) and it was delicious!
